POTSDAM, N.Y. – Junior guard
Kelly Donnelly of the Skidmore College women's basketball team notched her 1,000th career point as the Thoroughbreds earned their fifth straight victory, defeating Clarkson 60-46 Tuesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds remain in first place in Liberty League play with a 5-0 record and an 8-5 record overall. The Golden Knights fall to 7-6 overall, 2-2 in the league.
Donnelly hit a 3-pointer from the wing with 5:13 to go in the second quarter for the milestone basket. She becomes the 14th player in Skidmore history to reach the 1,000-point mark, the first since Angela Botiba in 2015. Donnelly is also the third junior to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Donnelly finished with her eighth double-double of the season, leading all players with 28 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Junior guard
Veronica Moceri scored in double figures for her third straight game, notching a double-double of her own with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Guard Devin Sorell led the Golden Knights with 11 points and three rebounds, while fellow guard Madison Shea scored 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Both teams shot just a shade over 33 percent from the field in the first half, as the game was tied at 24 after the first 20 minutes. In the second half, Clarkson pulled to its largest lead of the game at 35-28, before the Thoroughbreds mounted its run. Skidmore went on a 7-0 run that stretched between two quarters, tying the game. Migle Vilunaite put the Thoroughbreds up for good with a jumper to make it 43-41, and Skidmore outscored Clarkson 17-5 the rest of the way to clinch the victory.
The Thoroughbreds held the Golden Knights to just 30.7 percent shooting from the field in the contest and held a dominating 54-28 rebounding advantage.
Skidmore will head west to take on RIT Friday at 6 p.m.
