SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team starts a three-game road trip this weekend with two games in Western New York. The Thoroughbreds will travel to Geneva to take on Hobart on Friday at 4 p.m., before ending the weekend in Rochester against RIT Saturday at 2 p.m. It's the first conference road contests for Skidmore this season.
Last Saturday, the Thoroughbreds opened up Liberty League play with a 1-1 draw at home against Vassar.
Austin Okoye scored his fourth goal of the season off a low
Nick Masiero pass to open the scoring for the Thoroughbreds.
Derrick Yam recorded a season-high seven saves, including a few big saves in the overtime session, to maintain the draw.
Okoye leads the Thoroughbreds with four goals and eight points this season. He is the Liberty League leader in shots per game (5.17) and goals per game (.667).
Kevin Santos has tallied two goals and four assists to share the team points lead with Okoye. Santos leads the league in assists per game (.800), and is second in both shots per game (4.40) and points per game (1.60).
SCOUTING HOBART (3-3-2, 1-0 LL)
Hobart comes into the weekend after opening conference play with a huge victory at then- No. 5 St. Lawrence 1-0. The Statesmen bring a 3-3-2 overall record and a 1-0-0 mark in the Liberty League into this weekend's games. JP White and Zach Poretz lead the team with four points each, both recording two goals. Ten Statesmen have scored for Hobart so far this season in what is a balanced offense. Sophomore Alec Kaminer sports a 0.72 goals against average, a .842 save percentage and a 3-0-1 record.
LAST TIME OUT – Last season, former Thoroughbreds star
Tim Sullivan scored with 3:55 to go in the overtime period off an Okoye assist to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 victory. Skidmore is unbeaten (2-0-1) in the last three matchups in this series.
SCOUTING RIT (3-3-2, 0-0-1 LL)
RIT opened up Liberty League play last weekend with a scoreless draw at Clarkson last Saturday. The Tigers will host RPI on Friday, before the Thoroughbreds come to town.
Five different players have scored a goal for the Tigers this season. Gene Sicoli and Anthony DeFeo both lead RIT with two assists. Peter Cinibulk has played every minute for the Tigers in goal, sporting a 0.53 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. Both marks are second in the Liberty League.
LAST TIME OUT – Last season, Skidmore defeated RIT, 2-0 at Wachenheim Field in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten streak. RIT holds an 8-6-1 advantage all-time, although the Thoroughbreds have won the last four contests.
