SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Liberty League play begins for the Skidmore College men's soccer team, as the squad hosts Vassar at Wachenheim Field Saturday afternoon. It is the first conference game for both teams.
On Tuesday, the Thoroughbreds went on the road and defeated MCLA, 1-0.
Kevin Santos tallied the lone goal in the 38th minute, with Bryan Longeran tallying the assist. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Trailblazers 32-3 in the contest.
This season, Santos is the team leader, and third in the conference, in points per contest (1.60), and leads all Thoroughbreds with four assists.
Austin Okoye leads Skidmore with three goals in five games played, and is ninth in points per contest (1.20). Okoye leads the league with five shots per game. As a team, the Thoroughbreds lead the league, and are sixth nationally with 23 shots per game.
SCOUTING VASSAR (6-1-1)
Vassar comes into the conference opener after a 3-0 victory at home against Elmira on Tuesday. The Brewers are the seventh-ranked team in the latest NSCAA Regional polls, and are undefeated (4-0-1) at home. Mattie Mrlik is second in the Liberty League with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Tanner Sands shares the team lead with four goals, adding one assist. Matt Marcelino has a solid goals against average of 0.88, and a .806 save percentage in seven starts.
LAST TIME OUT – Last season, Skidmore beat Vassar 1-0 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Vassar leads the evenly matched series 12-10-6 all-time.
