SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team finishes its six-game homestand, and heads to Western New York  this weekend. The Thoroughbreds host Cortland on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 12:30 p.m., then heads to Pittsford, N.Y. to face Nazareth on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m.
 
The Thoroughbreds, ranked No. 13 in the latest NFCHA Division III national poll, enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak. On Wednesday, Sept 21, the Thoroughbreds recorded their third straight shutout in a 10-0 victory over Castleton. Krista Lamoreaux and Gabby Hyman each tallied two goals and two assists, and Elizabeth Coughlin improved to 4-0 on the season with her third shutout in goal.
 
The Skidmore defense is rounding into midseason form right before the start of league play. The unit has kept opponents scoreless in the last 228:48 minutes of game action. On Wednesday, junior defender Marissa Folts was honored by the NFHCA and Longstreth as its Division III Defensive Player of the Week. In goal, Coughlin has been stellar, allowing just one goal in 220:17, posting a .900 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING CORTLAND (4-2)
SUNYAC member Cortland comes into the contest after a 5-2 bounce-back victory against Geneseo. The Red Dragons have been solid offensively, scoring five goals or more in three of their four victories. Cortland will take on Morrisville State on the road Friday afternoon, before heading to Skidmore.
 
Jessica Welsh and Anna Branch each lead Cortland with five goals, with Welsh adding four assists for a team-leading 14 points. Gabby Stein also leads the Red Dragons with 14 points, off of four goals and six assists. Goalie Kailynne Reinoehl has a 1.11 goals against average, with a .850 save percentage in 376:46 minutes.
 
LAST TIME OUT – Skidmore defeated Cortland on the road, 2-0 on Sept. 5, 2015, the first time in 45 games that the Red Dragons were shutout.
 
 
SCOUTING NAZARETH (1-6)
Empire 8 squad Nazareth comes into Sunday's contest after dropping a 4-0 decision to St. John Fisher on Tuesday. The Golden Flyers are led by Jennifer Hilts, who has seven points, on three goals and one assist. Kimber Nourse has a 5.51 goals against average and a .769 save percentage, starting in all seven contests
 
LAST TIME OUT – The Thoroughbreds defeated the Golden Flyers, 6-0 in the regular season finale on Halloween of 2015. Skidmore has outscored Nazareth 17-0 over the last three games played between the two squads.
