Skidmore close season with St. Lawrence sweep

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team completed the season sweep of St. Lawrence with a 53-51 Liberty League win, Sunday afternoon at the Williamson Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds finish the season with a 14-11 overall and 8-8 Liberty League record. The Saints are 16-9 and 9-7 and will face Clarkson in the Liberty semifinals on Wednesday.
 
Kelly Donnelly led the Thoroughbreds with 16 points, six rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist. Veronica Moceri scored 10 points to go along with four rebounds. Migle Vilunaite and Amber Holgate added five points each.
 
Jenny Scudder was the lone Saint in double figures, coming off the bench to score 12 points.
 
Skidmore led 26-16 after a low scoring first half. The Thoroughbreds held the Saints to 26% (7-27) from the floor.
 
SLU found its range in the third quarter, erasing the deficit in the third to take a 38-36 lead in to the final stanza. That would be the last lead of the game for the Saints.
 
In the fourth, the Thoroughbreds took a quick 40-38 advantage on baskets by Haley English and Donnelly.  St. Lawrence tied it once, but was never able to get back in front.
 
Skidmore scored 18 points off 18 Saint turnovers. The Thoroughbreds also had a 40-34 rebound advantage.
