Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wesleyan holds off charging Thoroughbreds, 63-60

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team nearly erased a 15-point fourth quarter deficit in a 63-60 loss to Wesleyan University in the championship game of the Courtyard by Marriott Invitational.

The Thoroughbreds are 3-4, while the Cardinals improve to 4-3.

All-tournament selections Kelly Donnelly and Veronica Moceri led the Thoroughbreds with 18 and 11 points respectively. Donnelly also had seven steals and four rebounds.

Skidmore fell behind 56-42 after three quarters.

The teams traded points at the start of the fourth quarter, before Maya Bell hit a layup with 7:37 to play to start the Thoroughbreds on a 10-2 run that cut the Wesleyan lead to four, 60-56 with 4:54 left. A Cardinal three ended the run and moved the lead to 63-56 at the 3:08 mark.

That would be the last points of the game for Wesleyan. Skidmore managed to cut it to 63-60 on field goals by Moceri and Donnelly. A final Thoroughbred three attempt as time expired just missed, leaving the 63-60 final.

Skidmore closes out the semester on Dec. 10 at Middlebury.
