WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Williams College outscored Skidmore 22-16 in the fourth quarter on the way to a 62-53 non-conference win Tuesday night.
Â
The Thoroughbreds are 2-3, while the Ephs have won four straight to improve to 4-1.
Â
Skidmore's
Kelly Donnelly led all scorers with 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four steals.
Veronica Moceri added 15 points off the bench. Maya Bell had five assists, six points and two steals.
Â
Lauren McCall and Devon Caveney scored 17 and 13 points respectively for Williams.
Â
Both teams got off to a hot start in the first half, which made for 10 lead changes during the first 20 minutes of action. Skidmore did most of their damage with sharp outside shooting, letting it fly despite shooting only 22.6% from three point range on the year. The Thoroughbreds drained three of their first five from distance while grabbing 10 offensive boards in the first half, which in turn led to 8 second chance points. Williams could not keep Skidmore off their glass the entire game, as the Thoroughbreds racked up 18 offensive boards which almost matched their defensive rebounding total.
Â
McCall's 11-point second quarter helped the Ephs build a 31-26 halftime lead before Donnelly, who was held to just seven points in the first half, racked up 11 points during the third quarter to bring her team within three, 40-37. Nothing came easy for Donnelly, as she kept making shots of increasing difficulty as Williams put more and more defensive pressure on her.
Â
Williams hit a pair of key threes, while going 8-9 from the line in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Â
Skidmore will travel to Wesleyan University Friday to face Keene State in the first round of the Wesleyan Courtyard by Marriott tournament.
