Field hockey downs Geneseo, 2-0

GENESEO, N.Y.—Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe McGuire made a career-high 13 saves and Dani DeGregory and Becca Halter each tallied to lead the fifth-ranked Skidmore College field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win against Geneseo, Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds, who shutout back-to-back opponents for the first time since 2011, improve to 3-0, while the Knights go to 1-3.

Skidmore pulled in front in the 13th minute as DeGregory ripped home a shot from the top-left corner of the shooting circle off a penalty corner with Halter assisting.

Halter doubled the Thoroughbreds lead 21 minutes into the second half, tipping a pass from Jenn Hanks high into the upper left corner.

Geneseo put together several solid scoring chances but it could not solve McGuire who eanred her second shutout of the season.

Skidmore outshot Geneseo 17-16 and had a 12-6 edge in penalty corners.

The Thoroughbreds go on the road to take on New Paltz at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
