POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team needed to win two and they did with a 5-0, 10-8 Liberty League road sweep of Clarkson University on Saturday in Potsdam.

The Thoroughbreds (14-16, 5-5 Liberty League) are in a three-way tie for third with St. Lawrence and Union. Each team has two games to play, with Skidmore hosting Union on Sunday for a pair at 1 p.m.

Rochester has clinched first and will host the league tournament with an 8-2 league mark. The Yellowjackets play St. Lawrence to close out the season. RPI is second at 6-4 and will play its final league pair on Sunday against Clarkson. Â Â Skidmore holds the tiebreaker over St. Lawrence and would with a split against Union.

In the first game, rookie
Amanda Carilli rang-up her third shutout of the season. She was never in trouble, allowing no runs on five hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. Â

Dani DeGregory hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. She went 2-4 with two runs, and three RBI.
Cassie Fishkin was 2-3 with a double.

In the second game, Clarkson led 6-5 until the Skidmore scored four in the sixth to take a 9-6 lead. The Thoroughbreds sent 10 runners to the plate, with Makenzie Whiting starting the rally with a solo home run to left.
Abby Shea had an RBI triple and DeGregory had an RBI double.

Skidmore added an insurance run in the seventh when DeGregory reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, reached third on an error and then scored on a single by
Lizette Roman-Johnston.

Clarkson scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but the Carilli stopped the bleeding with a bases loaded strikeout to end the game.

DeGregory was 2-5 with three runs and an RBI. Whiting finished 2-4 with two RBI.
Lauren Fortunato was 3-3 with a triple and two RBI and Roman-Johnston finished 3-4 with a run and an RBI.

Carilli improved to 7-10 with the win. She went six innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on 14 hits.
