WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—The Skidmore College softball team completed its most successful spring trip in recent years with a final day split. The Thoroughbreds beat Ramapo 3-2 and lost 8-0 t0 #9 Rowan University.
Â
The Thoroughbreds will bring a hard earned 4-6 record north, when the team returns to action March 25 at Utica College.
Â
Against Ramapo (7-4), Skidmore scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth. Mackenzie Whiting started the rally with a one-out single and scored when
Sam Skott tripled to left. Skott stole home on a double steal after
May-Lin McEvoy reached on an error.
Lila Rosenfeld plated McEvoy with a two strike single up the middle for the third run.
Â
Cassie Fishkin got the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits over four innings.
Amanda Carilli tossed three innings of relief for the save. The Thoroughbreds did not allow a walk.
Â
In the second game, Rowan (18-0) broke it open with three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. Skott and
Lizette Roman-Johnston had the hits for the Skidmore.
"We finished our spring break trip with a 4-6 record, which I am content with considering our tough schedule of opponents and the intense heat we endured all week," said Skidmore coach
Hannah Shalett. "We are prepared to head back north to fine tune our game and work on all aspects of our game. I am very happy with the way our team played and excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us."
