Skidmore powers past Hamilton, 82-73

CLINTON, N.Y.—Kelly Donnelly scored 19 points and added six steals to lead the Skidmore College women's basketball team to an 82-73 road win over Hamilton College, Monday night.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 4-2, while the Continentals are 0-2.

Joining Donnelly in double figures were Ari Fustini and Kayla Mitchell with 11 points each and Meaghan Flanagan with 10.  Haley English had a season-high eight assists.
Skidmore led by 13 less than five minutes in before Hamilton used a 19-8 run over a 5:03 stretch in the first half to go ahead for the first time. After Sam Grabergave the Continentals their first lead 3:08 into the second quarter, Claire Hebb '19 followed with a free throw to put the hosts up 31-29. Skidmore responded by scoring 20 of the last 26 points of the second half, then held a double-digit lead until the game's final seconds.

Graber finished with a game-high 22 points.

The Thoroughbreds went up 10-0 and 15-2, making their first four shots – and six of their first seven – to start the game. Skidmore's opening flurry included four three-point baskets, including a pair by Fustini.

Donnelly netted six during the Thoroughbreds run to close the first half, tying the score with a lay-up and putting the finishing touches on the 20-6 stretch by burying a long jumper at the halftime buzzer.

Flanagan made four of five shots from the floor for Skidmore, who's won nine straight over the Continentals. Donnelly, who made eight of 12 field-goal attempts and all three of her free throws.

Skidmore will host Williams on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

COACH BENNETT:  "This was not our most complete game but it was a strong showing on the offensive end. We had four players with double digit points and three players with 6, 8 and 9 points. We had a very strong showing from our non-starters and in while we had eleven players with double digit minutes. That's the kind of depth we want to be able to use this season and when everybody plays hard and does their job we are able to do that.

"We really have to be much smarter with the ball. We have too many unforced, not smart turnovers and against veteran teams we are going to pay for that dearly. We also have to stop the excessive fouling and outing teams on the line for free shots. Good teams are going to foul is out, make a living at the line and be able to run the score up without time coming off the clock.

"We are slowly coming together and as each player continues to carve out their positional time and learn the game and continue to understand what they should be doing through reps, coaching and learning systems I think we can do some really god things.

We will have some great games and some not so great ones. Tonight we had both scenarios in 40 minutes of play.
Winning road games toughens your skin and builds good moral. Tonight that happened for us."
