SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's soccer team will be playing for its playoff life in its regular season finale Saturday at Union.
 
The Thoroughbreds were upset by Bard, 2-1, on Tuesday. Freshman center back Ben Poole scored his second goal of the season in the loss and freshman defender Ben Caples recorded his team-leading seventh assist of the season.
 
Skidmore is currently tied for third in the Liberty League standings and can earn a postseason berth with a win over Union or a tie with the Dutchmen and a Hobart win against RIT.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 0-3-1 in their last four games and 0-3 in their last three Liberty League contests. Caples leads all Liberty League rookies in assists, while senior goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach is 16th in Division III with a 0.52 goals against average and 19th in Division III with a .875 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING UNION
Union battled to a 1-0 double overtime win against Vassar on Thursday to extend its win streak to three and keep itself in playoff contention. Jason Miller scored in the 106th minute to snag the win for the Dutchmen.
 
Union is 4-0 in one-goal games and 5-0-2 at home this season, including a 3-0 record against Liberty League opponents.
 
Senior forward Carl Faber is third in the conference with 10 goals and fifth with 20 points. Sophomore Ethan Strauss, who was named the 2014 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, is second on the team with six goals and 13 points and junior midfielder Andrew Fontaine is third with 12 points, including a league-high eight assists.
