SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—
Tim Sullivan's goal with 3:55 to play in the second overtime gave the Skidmore College men's soccer team a 1-0 Liberty League win over Hobart College, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
The win places the Thoroughbreds all alone at the top of the Liberty League standings with a 3-0 league and 7-2 overall record. The Statesmen are 6-2-2 and 0-1-2.
Scoring chances were at a premium for both teams during regulation. Hobart's best opportunity came with 5:50 to play in the first half when Mitch Palmer collected a rebound in the box and appeared to have a clear shot at the net, but was denied by Skidmore back
Adebare Oyeniyi who cleared the shot off the goal line. It was one of several defensive clears for Oyeniyi.
The Thoroughbreds almost won it in regulation when an Oyeniyi header was tipped over the cross bar by Hobart keeper Tyler Serafine in the 62
nd minute.
The game winner came off a long restart.
Ben Poole played the ball into the box, where
Augustine Okoye was able to direct it Sullivan who rattled it off the far post for the win.
The goal snapped a 523 minute scoreless streak by the Hobart defense. The Statesmen have only allowed six goals in 10 games.
On the flip side, Skidmore extends its scoreless streak to 383 minutes. The Thoroughbreds have allowed just five goals in nine games and none in three Liberty League games.
Hobart had a 15-13 shot advantage. Each team had six corners.
Skidmore goalie Eli Kisslebach had 10 saves, including two in the overtime, for his fifth shutout of the season. He has not allowed a goal in his last 358 minutes. Serafine finished with two saves for the Statesmen.
The Thoroughbreds return to action Oct. 10 at Vassar in a 2 p.m. match.
