Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Skidmore falls 2-1 to RPI

TROY, N.Y.—The Rensselaer women's soccer team dealt Skidmore's postseason plans a near fatal blow with a 2-1 win Tuesday night.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in Liberty League play. The Engineers are 6-7-6 and 2-3-3.  Skidmore has completed its league schedule and is tied for third with 10 points. The only way the Thoroughbreds make the tournament is if Union (9 points) and Vassar (8 points) tie in their game on Saturday.

Junior Catie Mann (Downington, PA/Downington) sent a ball over her shoulder and into the run of classmate Corey Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), who buried a shot from inside the six-yard area. The tally was Winslow's third of the year.

The Engineers continued to pressure the Skidmore end of the field, but took a one-goal lead into halftime. RPI had a 6-4 edge in shots after 45 minutes.

RPI doubled its lead in the 52nd minute, when freshman Emily Dunn (Seattle, WA/Ballard) tapped home a rebound from just outside the goal mouth. A corner by senior Kate Edwards (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was headed on frame by sophomore Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA/Vista del Lago), but Skidmore goalkeeper Dee Walsh (Far Hills, NJ/Oak Knoll) made a diving save. Dunn was there the finish it off for her first collegiate tally.

The Thoroughbreds drew to within 2-1 in the 66th minute on shot by freshman Emily Mendes (Brooklyn, NY/The Beacon School). Sophomore Jemimah Cochrane (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up the assist.

Following the goal, the Engineers held Skidmore to three shots from distance, including two on target. RPI finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots, including 10-4 on goal. Walsh finished with eight saves, while RPI keeper Tori Winslow (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) had three.
