#10 Skidmore explodes for 10 goals, routs Vassar

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The 10th-ranked Skidmore College field hockey team cruised to its fifth consecutive win with a 10-2 rout of Vassar College, Saturday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The Thoroughbreds, who have won 29-straight Liberty League home games, move to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Vassar goes to 9-4 and 2-2.

Dani DeGregory led Skidmore with four goals and two assists, extending her point streak to eight games. Jenn Hanks contributed two goals and an assist, Krista Lamoreaux added a goal and three helpers and Grace Florsheim produced her first career two-goal game.

Hanks put the Thoroughbreds in front 2:54 into the game, blasting home a shot from the top of the circle from a penalty corner. DeGregory doubled the Skidmore lead from another well-worked penalty corner just under four minutes later, taking a feed from Becca Halter at the left edge of the circle and slotting a shot inside the far post.

DeGregory added her second of the game on a breakaway at 8:14 after collecting a long pass from Lamoreaux.

After Caroline Saros made it 4-0 with her second tally of the year, Lauren Wiebe put the Brewers on the board. Haley Beach dribbled down the right flank and cut down the end line before sending a pass to the top of the circle. A scramble ensued and Wiebe pounced on the loose ball before sending a shot inside the left post, making it 4-1 at the break.

The Thoroughbreds came out firing in the second half, scoring two goals in the opening 3:29. DeGregory completed her hat trick after working a give-and-go with Lamoreaux from a corner and Florsheim pushed the lead to 6-1, tipping in a shot from Lamoreaux 1:52 later.

Wiebe netted her second of the game with a shot from a tight angle in the 42nd minute, but Skidmore answered back with four unanswered goals to roll to the 10-2 win.

The Thoroughbreds outshot Vassar 21-4 and had a 13-1 edge in penalty corners. Zoe McGuire recorded her seventh win of the season in goal for Skidmore, while Paige Amico took the loss for the Brewers, stopping four shots.
