Men's soccer held off by SUNY Canton, 1-0

Box Score CANTON, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback at SUNY Canton, Saturday afternoon in nonleague play.

Roos freshman forward Randy Mayer tallied his first collegiate goal and goalkeeper Austin Lemay recorded his third consecutive shutout, as Canton improved to 3-0.

After a scoreless opening half, Mayer put the Roos in front in the 49th minute, converting on a feed from Hunter Mowery from the left wing.  The Thoroughbreds (2-2) pressed late, but Lamay turned away strikes from Nick Masiero and Kevin Santos to preserve the shutout.

Skidmore held a 16-11 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corners. Lamay made a season-high seven stops in net for the Roos, while Danny Ebenstein turned aside eight shots in his first start of the season for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore makes the short trip to the Sage Colleges for a 5 p.m. contest Wednesday, Sept. 10.
