Women's soccer plays to 1-1 draw at Union

Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games, battling to a 1-1 tie with Union College, Tuesday night at College Park in the Liberty League opener for both teams.

The Thoroughbreds go to 3-3-1 (0-0-1 Liberty League), while the Dutchwomen move to 6-1-1 (0-0-1)

Christina Sanzari's first collegiate goal gave Skidmore the lead 12:40 into the contest. Sanzari collected a loose ball outside of the Union 18-yard box and dribbled past her defender before tucking a shot inside the far post.

The Dutchwomen drew even just after halftime, as Whitney Bickford picked out Katie Monahan with a through ball, who poked home a shot on the breakaway.

Union looked to have found the winner in the first overtime period, but Thoroughbreds goalkeeper Deirdre Walsh went full stretch to parry Molly Gilchrist's blast from 18 yards around the far post. Walsh denied Gilchrist again in the dying seconds of the game to preserve the tie.

Walsh made a career-high nine saves, while Allison Brustowicz made a season-high 12 saves for the Dutchwomen. Skidmore outshot Union 33-20, while Union had a 6-4 advantage in corners.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Vassar Saturday, Sept. 27 for a 2 p.m. contest.
