Box Score UTICA, N.Y. -- The third-ranked Skidmore College field hockey team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 4-1 at Utica College Sunday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The loss snaps an 11-game regular-season winning streak for the Thoroughbreds, who go to 5-1 on the season. The Pioneers improved to 6-1 with the win.
Utica jumped out to a quick lead as senior Hannah Mackey scored her conference-leading 13th goal of the season 3:46 into the contest. Skidmore evened the score at 19:49 as
Melanie Webb tallied her sixth goal of the year on a long feed from
Dani DeGregory, ending the Pioneers 174-minute shutout streak.

Utica regained the lead at 23:48 as Chasity Eckert tipped in a long shot from Alaina Stojkovski. Melisa Koch extended the Pioneers lead two minutes later from a penalty corner, collecting a rebound and lifting home a backhand shot.
Despite being outshot 11-7 in the second half, Utica managed to hang on for the win, as Dowling's second goal of the season at 52:56 sealed the victory.
The Pioneers outshot Skidmore 18-15, while the Thoroughbreds held an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners.Â
Amy Beck made a career-high 10 saves in the setback, while Kells Casey also recorded a season-high 10 saves for Utica.
Skidmore plays a pair of road Liberty League games next weekend, traveling to William Smith Saturday, Sept. 26 for 4 p.m. contest before taking on the University of Rochester at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
