Men's soccer battles to 2-2 draw with Plattsburgh

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Plattsburgh in a back-and-forth non-conference contest, Saturday evening at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds move to 4-3-1, while the Cardinals go to 5-2-1.

Skidmore pulled ahead in the 32nd minute, as Adam Beek rolled a shot into an empty net after the Plattsburgh goalkeeper collided with his defender at the top of the 18-yard box. Beek nearly doubled the lead just over a minute later, beating his defender down the left wing and firing a shot off the near post.

Chris Bowden brought the Cardinals level in the 35th minute, collecting a loose ball and rocketing a shot from 12 yards into the top corner after Skidmore failed to clear a long throw.

Plattsburgh controlled the opening minutes of the second half but it could not capitalize on its opportunities as shots from Bowden and Alexis Archilla both sailed wide of the target.

Todd Jensen restored the Skidmore lead in the 64th minute, driving a low strike through traffic after a Cardinals defender cleared away a Skidmore corner. Achillas provided the response for Plattsburgh in the 64th minute with his team-leading eight tally of the season.  Nate Economou slid a through ball to Achillas, and he made no mistake on the finish, burying a shot inside the far post.

The Cardinals looked to have found the winning goal in overtime, but Eli Kisselbach made a diving save to deny Fabian Chaparro's blast from 25 yards.

Plattsburgh outshot Skidmore 16-12, while the Thoroughbreds had a 5-4 advantage in corners. Kisselbach made six saves, while Mitchell Jordon turned away three shots for the Cardinals.

Skidmore goes on the road to face MCLA at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23.
