Women's soccer blanks Castleton, 4-0

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 non-conference win against Castleton, Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field.
 
Sophomore midfielder Emily Saliterman netted her first career hat trick and Erin Barry scored her first goal of the season for the Thoroughbreds (2-3). Arena Manning and Nicole LoRusso both produced assists.
 
Barry gave Skidmore the only lead it would need 12:25 into the contest, as she collected a loose ball in the midfield and fired a strike from 25 yards that swerved just inside the near post.
 
Saliterman extended the lead in the 32nd minute, receiving a cross from Manning and sneaking a shot past Spartans goalkeeper Jessica Binkowski.
 
Saliterman sealed the win for Skidmore in the 71st minute with her second goal of the game, intercepting a pass just outside the Castleton box and pushing past her defender before poking home a shot from six yards. She completed her hat trick 1:26 later, racing onto a Lorusso through ball a slotting a shot far post.
 
Deirdre Walsh made three saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds in her first career shutout. Binkowski (45:00 MP, 0 saves) and Olivia Maher (45:00 MP, 3 saves) split time in goal for the Spartans (3-4). Skidmore outshot Castleton 12-7 and owned a 2-1 edge in corners.
 
The Thoroughbreds host Plattsburgh at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
