Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Â The Skidmore College field hockey team used four first half goals to hold off Cortland in a 7-3 win, Saturday afternoon at Wagner Park.

Dani DeGregory notched a hat trick for the second consecutive game,
Melanie Webb tallied twice and added two assists,
Krista Lamoreaux produced one goal and two assists and
Jenn Hanks had one goal and one assist for the Thoroughbreds (2-0).

Gabby Stein led the Red Dragons (0-1) with two goals, Jillian Vogl recorded her first goal of the season and Emily Woods and Victoria Dean both produced assists.

Lamoreaux put Skidmore out to an early lead, tapping in a cross-crease feed from Webb 1:05 into the game. DeGregory doubled the lead 6:24 later, collecting a loose ball and slotting home a shot from 10 yards.

Vogl cut the Thoroughbreds lead in half with a blast from the top of the circle from a penalty corner, but DeGregory restored the two-goal lead with a deflection on a long range effort from Lamoreaux. Webb put Skidmore ahead 4-1 in the dying seconds of the first half, tipping in a Hanks shot from a well worked penalty corner.

Hanks and Webb both tallied in the opening 5:45 of the second half to extend the Skidmore lead, but the Red Dragons made a late push with two goals from Stein coming 24 seconds apart. After Stein's first made it 6-2 with 8:14 to play, Cortland continued to apply pressure and converted on a quick counterattack as Woods picked out Stein alone in front of goal for her second of the contest.

The Red Dragons pressed late but could not get any closer, as DeGregory completed her hat trick with 57 seconds remaining to give the Thoroughbreds the 7-3 win.

Skidmore outshot Cortland 22-9 and owned a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Amy Beck made two saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds in her second win of the season. Amanda Perricone and Mairead Hourihan split time in goal for the Red Dragons, turning away four shots each.
