Late goal haunts Thoroughbreds

Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y.-- Rutgers-Newark scored with 16 seconds left in regulation to upend Skidmore 2-1 in the Michelle Vargas-Robin Memorial Women's Soccer Tournament, hosted by SUNY New Paltz.  It was the season opener for both teams.
 
The Thoroughbreds will face the host school on Saturday at 12 p.m. in a predetermined pairing.
 
Skidmore outshot the Scarlet Raiders 17-4, but only beat RN goalie Veronika Tueros once.
 
Lauren Alexander converted a cross from Arena Manning at 11:10 to give the Thoroughbreds the early 1-0 lead.
 
Skidmore held the Scarlet Raiders off the board until the 64th minute when Sara Corson scored off a cross from Christina Estremera to tie it 1-1.
 
Corson scored the game winner at 89:44 when she received a long pass down the line from Sarah Cunha for the 2-1 win.
 
Madison Plummer had one save in net for the Thoroughbreds, while Tueros finished with eight saves.
