Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 win against SUNY Oneonta 2-0 Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Red Dragons fall to 3-2.
Three Skidmore freshmen recorded their first career points as
Kelly O'Donnell and
Emily Saliterman each tallied their first goals, and Nicole Lorusso registered an assist.
O'Donnell put the Thoroughbreds in front win the 24th minute as
Kelsey Russell clipped in a free kick from 45 yards out and O'Donnell met it off the bounce, lobbing a header over the Oneonta goalkeeper.
Saliterman doubled the Skidmore lead in the 39th minute, curling a strike into the upper left corner from 20 yards out. Nicole Lorusso collected a loose ball near the Oneonta touch line and fed Saliterman whose shot gave the Red Dragons goalkeeper no chance.
The Thoroughbreds nearly increased the lead to three 90 seconds into the second half, but
Arena Manning's shot from 12 yards rang off the left post. Oneonta threated to cut the lead in half in the 71th minute as Liz Lasota delivered a threatening free kick, but
Gab Lawrence was quick off her line to collect the ball out of the air.
Morgan Governale came close to putting the game away with 10 minutes remaining, but Red Dragons goalkeeper Rori Stark made an athletic save to parry the ball over the crossbar. Oneonta pressed in the closing minutes of the game, but it could not break through the Thoroughbreds defense.
Skidmore outshot Oneonta 17-5 and owned a 2-1 advantage in corners. Lawrence made one save for her third shutout and fourth win of the season. In goal for the Red Dragons, Stark made five saves in 60 minutes of action after relieving starting goalkeeper Kelley Murphy, who made one save.
The Thoroughbreds travel to SUNY Plattsburgh Saturday, Sept. 21 for a 1 p.m. contest.
