Skidmore women's soccer run ends at NCAA Tournament

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College women's soccer team was eliminated by Rowan University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Thoroughbreds finish the season with a record of 12-4-2, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 with an at-large bid. Skidmore opened the season with a 12-game unbeaten streak and set a program record with a 13-game unbeaten streak dating back to Oct. 24. 2012.
 
The Thoroughbreds nearly pushed ahead in the 2nd minute, as Jen Wardyga sent a header crashing off the bar after rising to meet Christine Bellotti's free kick.
 
The Profs managed to survive the early pressure, eventually taking the lead in the 21st minute. Jess Durnian slotted a strike into the bottom left corner off a feed from Dayna Sakalsky, putting Rowan ahead 1-0.
 
Skidmore continued to press, but Rowan goalkeeper Carleigh Trivino denied strikes from Bellotti in the 31st and 35th minute to preserve the lead.
 
The second half proved to be more of the same for the Thoroughbreds, as they held the majority of the possession but could not find a way through the Profs back line.
 
Skidmore outshot Rowan 14-8 and held a 6-1 advantage in corners. Senior goalkeeper Gab Lawrence made two saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds, while Carleigh Trivino stopped eight shots for the Profs.
