Skidmore battles to 1-0 win against RIT

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with a 1-0 win against RIT in Liberty League action, Friday at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-4-2 (3-1-1 Liberty), while the Tigers go to 5-6-2 (2-3 Liberty).

RIT tested Skidmore goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach in the opening minutes but he was up to the challenge, turning away Luke Dorsey's close-range effort and denying Geno Rocco on the rebound.

The Thoroughbreds fought off the early pressure and Adam Beek put them in front in the 22nd minute, unleashing a strike from 35 yards just under the crossbar for his fourth goal of the season.

Kisselbach preserved the shutout late in the first half, stopping Michael Vincelli's shot from eight yards off an RIT restart.

Skidmore controlled the play in the second half and Nick Masiero nearly doubled the lead in the 70th minute, rolling a shot just wide of the left post after running on to a perfectly weighted pass from Nick Martinelli.

The Thoroughbreds continued to deny RIT of scoring opportunities and Adebare Oyeniyi came close to putting the game out of reach in the 85th minute, but his shot struck the left post. However, the Skidmore defense did not allow a shot in the final 13 minutes of play, helping secure the 1-0 victory.

The Thoroughbreds outshot the Tigers 12-11 and held a 3-2 advantage in corners.  Kisselbach made seven saves in goal for Skidmore, including five in the first half, while Mark Reeves stopped four shots for RIT.

Skidmore hosts Hobart College in their final home game of the regular season Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
