Kelly Blackhurst scored three goals to lead Skidmore College to a 6-2 Liberty League field hockey win over host Union College at Frank Bailey Field Saturday night. Skidmore improved to 10-3 overall and is now 3-1 in the Liberty League. Union fell to 4-9 for the season and 1-3 in the league.
Union goalkeeper Molly McCune made 22 saves while
Haley McDougall stopped five in over 47 minutes of play for Skidmore. The guests had 44 shots to Union's nine, and had 16 corners while Union had two.
Dani DeGregory had two goals and an assist for the Throroughbreds.
Hannah Najar opened the scoring at 19:52 for the Dutchwomen, with an unassisted tally for her second of the season. She took a drive from 12 yards out that went through traffic and found the right side of the net. But Skidmore took the lead a few minutes later, as DeGregory fed Blackhurst on the doorstep, and Blackhurst tipped in the pass for her 14th of the year.
Blackhurst gave the Thoroughbreds their first lead of the day 27:16 into the game. Her 15th came when she deked and then tapped it inside the left post. She got a pass from five yard sout from Krista lamoreaux. DeGregory added her 11th of the year at 30:28, an unassisted score coming off a shot into the right side from just outside the cage.
Skidmore made it 4-1 at 40:32 when
Sam Skott picked up her own rebound right in front and shot in her third of the year. DeGregory tallied at 47:20 with a blast through a crowd and Blackhurst got her third of the day with a long shot in the middle from over 15 yards out at 47:39. Union got the second goal at 61:36 when Ali Flake fed Nicole Merigliano in front from a far right pass and the senior notched her 12th of the year.
