Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team picked up a 3-1 non-leauge victory over New Paltz, Saturday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
The 8
th-ranked Thoroughbreds improve to 3-0, while they hand the Hawks (2-1) their first loss of the season.
New Paltz put the pressure on early as they outshot Skidmore 6-4 in the first half, but the Thoroughbreds put up the only goal of the first half as senior
Ceilidh MacNeill redirected a shot from
Kelly Blackhurst for her second goal of the season at the 19:56 mark.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the half,
Sam Skott made it a two-goal lead with her third goal of the season, another redirection from Blackhurst. At 66:35, Blackhurst made a few moves on her defender and found the back of the cage for sixth of the season, giving Skidmore a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks got on the board at 68:08 as Morgan Lizotte redirected a pass from Lauren Link for the goal, but that's as close as they would get as the Thoroughbreds earned the 3-1 victory and extended their regular season home-winning streak to 24 games.
McDougall finished with six saves in goal, while Antonija Pjetri made seven stops for New Paltz.
Skidmore outshot the Hawks 15-9 and held an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Oneonta for their first road game of the season.
