Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—A goal in the 71
st minute was the difference in William Smith's 1-0 Liberty League win over Skidmore College, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds drop to 1-7-1 and 0-3-1 in Liberty League play, while the 10th ranked Herons improve to 7-2-1 and 2-1.
Renee Jensen scored the game's lone goal at 70:53.
Both teams had chances early. Skidmore's
Rebecca Russo had a chance off a corner that Olivia Zitolia blocked in front of an open net for the Herons in the 12
th minute. William Smith's best opportunity of the half came in the 21
st minute off a restart at the top of the box. Whitney Frary drilled one that Thoroughbred goalie
Gab Lawrence saved and then alertly corralled the rebound from two Heron attackers.
William Smith broke through when Renee Jensen scored her fourth of the season from just inside the left side of the box for the 1-0 lead.
Skidmore had a pair of chances late, but the Heron defense held.
Lawrence finished with eight saves, while Chelsea Dunay had one save for William Smith.
The Herons had a 10-5 shot and 5-3 corner advantage.
Skidmore is at Vassar on Oct. 6 for a 4 p.m. match.
