Big first half propels Thoroughbreds past Union

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – A five goal first half carried #6 Skidmore to a 6-0 win over Union in Saturday's Liberty League field hockey matchup at Thoroughbred Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds remain unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Dutchwomen fall to 2-4 overall and 1-2 league.  Skidmore improves its regular season home-winning streak to 27 games and has won 19 straight Liberty League contests.
 
The Thoroughbreds got the scoring started early as Ceilidh MacNeill put home a rebound for her sixth of the season to make it 1-0 at 6:28.  Just 1:18 later, Kelly Blackhurst tallied her 12th goal of the season to make it 2-0.  Sam Skott gave Skidmore a three-goal lead at 13:12 as she took a pass from Molly Gile and found the back of the cage.
 
Blackhurst tallied her second of the game at 28:40 when MacNeill sent a perfect centering pass across the circle that Blackhurst hammered home to make it 4-0.  Annie Weis capped the first half scoring at 30:41 when she redirected Blackhurst's shot and scored on the far post for her third of the season and a 5-0 halftime lead.
 
Union was able to contain the Thoroughbreds for most of the second half but Blackhurst finished off her hat trick with a goal on a fast break with just :58 seconds remaining as Skidmore earned the 6-0 victory.
 
Haley McDougall, Amy Beck and Allie Sosinsky combined on the shutout in goal for the Thoroughbreds.  McDougall made the only save as the Skidmore defense held Union to just one shot. 
 
Molly McCune made 14 saves in goal for the Dutchwomen.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot Union 27-1 and held a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners. 

"Skidmore put together a fantastic first half" said coach Beth Hallebeck.  "Quality goals, excellent passing and solid defense helped the Thoroughbreds to dominate play.  Defender Jenn Hanks had an excellent game, helping to start the offense with hard hits and overheads."
 

Skidmore hosts #3 Middlebury this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
