Brock Bakewell recorded a hat trick to lead the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Bard in Wednesday night's Liberty League opener at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 4-0-1 and have yet to allow a goal this season, while the Raptors fall to 1-3-1.
Bakewell got the scoring started in the 16
th minute as he took a lead pass from
Adam Beek and beat the keeper one-on-one. Bakewell tallied his second of the game in the 27
th minute when he corralled a loose ball and blasted a shot past the goalie from the far right wing. Just over four minutes later,
Ike Okpoebo capped the first half scoring with a header off a centering pass from Beek in the 31
st minute.
Bakewell finished off his hat trick with a header off
Aaron Krepack's corner kick early in the second half to cap the scoring and give Skidmore the 4-0 win.
Eli Kisselbach earned the win in goal, playing the first 70:55 while
Lucas Zornoza stopped the only shot he faces in the final 19:05. For Bard, Gabe Rudd made three saves in the first half and Daniel Gagne stopped five shots in the second half.
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Raptors 23-3 and held an 8-2 advantage in corners.
Skidmore hosts Plattsburgh on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
