The season continues for the Skidmore College field hockey team. Early Monday morning, the Thoroughbreds received their sixth straight and 12th overall NCAA Division III tournament invite.
Skidmore (13-5) will host UMASS Dartmouth (17-5) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Tickets are priced at $5 general admission and $3 students with ID. The winner of that game will travel to Middlebury to take on the #1 Panthers in Saturday.
The Thoroughbreds received an at-large bid to the 24-team event after losing in 3-2 in overtime to the University of Rochester in the Liberty League. Rochester and Liberty League winner William Smith also made the tournament.
Skidmore was 10-1 at home this season, losing 2-1 to top-seed Middlebury.
Kelly Blackhurst leads the team in scoring with 26 goals and 17 assists for 69 points. She is third on Skidmore's all-time scoring list as a junior with 70 goals and 38 assists for 178 points, two out of second place.
Ceilidh MacNeill (11-9--31) and
Dani DeGregory (12-6--30) are next. Goalie
Haley McDougall has a 1.78 goals against average and .784 save percentage.
The Corsairs beat Keene State 1-0 to win the Little East Conference title. UMD brings an eight-game win streak into the tournament. Erica Allan (10-13--33) and Cory Connolly (12-6--30) lead the team in scoring. Goalie Lauren O'Brien has played every minute in goal this season with a 1.54 GAA and .790 save percentage.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
