Skidmore women close season with 1-0 win over Nazareth

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's soccer team ended its season on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Nazareth College in a non-league contest Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds end the season 4-9-2, while Nazareth is 9-5-4.
 
Skidmore senior Michelle Finan got the job done on both ends of the field, setting up the winning goal and clearing a ball off the goal line with a huge defensive save in the game's final minutes.
 
Nazareth the game's first scoring chance in the 41st minute when Danielle Wilkin found herself one-on-one in the box with Skidmore keeper Gab  Lawrence, but Lawrence stuffed Wilkin's shot to keep it 0-0 at the half.
 
In the second half, Erin Barry headed home a well placed corner from Finan for the game's lone goal at 57:21.
 
The Golden Eagles challenged late in the game, but Lawrence was up to the challenge.  With just under 9:00 to play, she made a big save off a corner rebound and then with 5:30 left made another save off a corner, with Finan in position to stop the rebound.
 
Lawrence finished with seven saves, while Abbie Carey had four for Nazareth in the first 57:21, while Bethany Novak had one save over the final 22:39.  The goal was the first given up by the Golden Flyers in five games.  
 
Nazareth had a 12-9 shot and 5-2 corner advantage.
