Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Skidmore College field hockey team picked up a 5-2 win over Geneseo in Saturday's regular season finale at Wagner Park.
The 13th-ranked Thoroughbreds finish the regular season with a 13-4 mark and await their seeding in the Liberty League tournament. The Knights fall to 12-5.
Senior
Ceilidh MacNeill got the scoring started as she redirected a
Kelly Blackhurst shot past Geneseo keeper Dayna Mercer at 9:10 to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead.
Pauline Searles made it 2-0 at 21:46 when she put home her own rebound for her fifth of the season. MacNeill gave the Thoroughbreds a 3-0 lead going into the half as she took a centering pass from
Sam Skott and put it home for her second of the game and 11th of the season.
In the second half,
Kelly Blackhurst put Skidmore up 4-0 as she put home a rebound off pads for her 26th of the season. The Knights responded less than a minute later as Bridget McGovern scored on a blast from the top of the circle to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Thoroughbreds pushed the lead back to 5-1 as
Dani DeGregory took a lead pass from Blackhurst and sent a backhand between the legs of Geneseo keeper Caitlyn Dowell for her 11th of the year. Lorelei Morrow scored for the Knights with 18 seconds remaining as Skidmore picked up the 5-2 win.
Haley McDougall earned the win, making seven saves, while
Jenn Hanks added a defensive save, her fourth of the season. Mercer finished with five saves on eight shots in the first 28:44 and Dowell made six stops over the final 41:16. McGovern also added a defensive save for Geneseo.
Skidmore outshot the Knights 22-13 and held a 15-9 advantage in penalty corners.
The Thoroughbreds resume play on Wednesday in the Liberty League semifinals.
