Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—Rensselaer clinched its first Liberty League regular season women's soccer title with a 2-0 win over Skidmore College, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds are 3-9-2 and 2-4-2 Liberty, while the Engineers are 11-5 and 7-1.
RPI took a 1-0 lead when Giana Abballe put back her own rebound for her sixth goal of the season at 14:07.
Abballe assisted the second Engineer goal with a long cross from the left side that Sara Rothschild headed home for her sixth of the year at 51:05.
Gab Lawrence had six saves for the Thoroughbreds, while Steph Vargas stopped two shots for her third shutout of the season.
RPI outshot Skidmore 14-4, while the Thoroughbreds had a 4-2 corner edge.
Skidmore will close out the season at home on Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against Nazareth College. The Engineers are at Hartwick Saturday at 6 p.m.
