Brock Bakewell scored in the 95
th minute to give the Skidmore College men's soccer team a 1-0 overtime victory over Clarkson in Saturday's Liberty League matchup at Hantz Turf Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 10-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in league play as they inch closer to earning a spot in the Liberty League tournament. The Golden Knights fall to 2-10-3 overall and 1-5-1 league.
Skidmore held a slight advantage in shots through the first half but neither team was able to generate solid scoring chances as the game remained scoreless at the half.
In the second half, the Thoroughbred offense started to click as they put the pressure on offensively but Clarkson keeper Saverino Spagnolo came up with big saves on
Andy Ringler and
Gildas Girimana, forcing the game to overtime.
Just under five minutes into the first overtime, Bakewell beat out Clarkson defenders to the ball and found the back of the net for his team leading seventh goal of the season.
Eli Kisselbach made one save to earn his eighth individual shutout of the season for Skidmore. Spagnolo finished with six saves for the Golden Knights.
The Thoroughbreds outshot Clarkson 16-7 and held a slight 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Skidmore wraps up its regular season on Oct. 27 when they host Liberty League rival Union for a 2 p.m. game.
