Platsburgh, NY-- Jake McCall's goal in the 62nd minute of play secured the win for MCLA in a close match-up against the Skidmore Thoroughbreds in the first game of the 2011 Cardinal Classic.
McCall beat Skidmore goalkeeper
Nick Peterson when he knocked a ball out of the air and into the net off of a corner kick by Robert Dalby.
Despite suffering the loss, Skidmore dominated much of the play with a
15-5 advantage in shots and a 14-3 edge in corner kicks.
Brock Bakewell led the way for the Thoroughbreds with four shots while
Mark Jensen followed with three.
Peterson recorded two saves in the loss. Trailblazers goalie Dillon Wager made two stops to earn his first win of the season.
MCLA will face Plattsburgh State tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Skidmore will take on St. Joseph's College in their second matchup of the tournament.
The following criteria will be used for determining a tournament champion:
three points will be awarded for a win and one point for a tie. In the event that a game ends in a tie, there will be an NCAA tournament-style penalty-kick shootout in the tie-breaker is needed; the official result would be draw.
