Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Hamilton in Saturday afternoon's Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league play, while the Continentals improve to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Hamilton put home the game's lone goal when Catherine Malcolm redirected a header from Megan Cairns off a free kick at the 14:46 mark. The goal was Malcolm's first of the season.
Each team battled throughout the remainder of the first half with Skidmore's best chance coming in the 37th minute when Liza Gergenti was able to make a stop on Erin Donnelan's (Walpole, Mass.) header in the box.
Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) kept the Continentals from making it 2-0 with a diving save on Laura Wray at the 60:09 mark.
Despite controlling the ball throughout the second half, the Thoroughbreds were unable to score as Hamilton's early goal held up for a 1-0 win.
Sleezer made three saves in goal for Skidmore and Gergenti finished with five stops for the Continentals.
The Thoroughbreds held a slight advantage in shots, 10-8, and also had a 4-3 corner kick advantage.
Skidmore resumes play on Wednesday, Sept.29, as they travel to #16 Amherst for a 4:30 kickoff.
