Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Plattsburgh State scored two first-half goals on the way to a 2-0 win over Skidmore College in the first round of the Skidmore Invitational Women's Soccer Tournament Thursday night at Wachenheim Field. It was the season opener for both teams.
Lindsey Keyser converted a penalty kick just 8:20 in for a 1-0 Cardinal lead. The Thoroughbreds countered with several chances over the next 10 minutes before Kristie Pageau scored on a breakaway at 20:11 to make it 2-0.
Skidmore couldn't solve Plattsburgh keeper Alina Greiser who finished with four saves.
Meghan Sleezerhad three saves in the first half for the Thoroughbreds, while
Gab Lawrence came on in the second to stop three shots in her first collegiate game.
Skidmore held an 11-9 edge in shots and a 7-4 penalty kick advantage.
The tournament continues on Saturday with predetermined second round games. The Thoroughbreds play New Paltz at 12:30 p.m. and Plattsburgh takes on Scranton at 5 p.m.
