Kelsey Yam had the other Thoroughbred goal.
Cortland (1-1-2) will face Mt. Holyoke on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the predetermined schedule, while Skidmore will play Kenyon (Ohio) at 11 a.m. Kenyon defeated Mt. Holyoke, 3-0, in the second game on Saturday.
Sophomore
Kelsey Yam (Longmeadow, MA) and senior
Lindsay Schmitt (Mendon, MA/Nipmuc) scored goals for the visiting Thoroughbreds (1-1-1). Skidmore starting goalie
Gab Lawrence (Yorktown) made one save and allowed one goal in the first half. Junior
Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville) played the final 65 minutes in net and made three saves.
Cortland opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Skidmore responded 1:23 after Cortland's goal when Yam cleaned up a shot at the post, assisted by
Lauren Madden (Huntington/St. Anthony's). Monnier made an initial save on Madden's shot from the riht side, but the ball bounced off the crossbar and near the left post where Yam was able to knock a shot in the open goal.
The Red Dragons reclaimed the lead 74:40 into the contest. A free kick by Maura Martin was saved by Sleezer, but De Luise put home the rebound right in front. The Throughbreds answered quickly again just 2:15 after the De Luise goal on a Schmitt penalty kick after a Skidmore player was pushed down in the box on a loose-ball scramble.
Each team had a chance to score the game winner in the closing minutes. In the 85th minute, Skidmore junior
Elena Stansky (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) sent a header off a free kick just wide right. Three minutes later, Sleezer made a diving save on Martin's 22-yard free kick.
The game was tightly played in the opening 10-minute overtime session with neither team earning a quality chance. In the second overtime, however, each squad again had late chances to score. With three minutes remaining, Monnier made a save on senior
Erin Donnellan's (Walpole, MA) header. Then with less than a minute to play, De Luise broke free on the right side of the box, cut inside but her shot was deflected by a Thoroughbred defender and rolled away to the right side of the goal.
