Kemp and Blackhurst lead Thoroughbreds to 5-1 win

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Christine Kemp and Blackhurst combined to score five goals, leading the 10th-ranked Thoroughbreds to a 5-1 victory over SUNY New Paltz in Saturday afternoon's field hockey action at Thoroughbred field.
Skidmore improves to 2-1 with the win, while the Hawks fall to 2-2.
Blackhurst (North River, N.Y.) got the Thoroughbreds off to a fast start, hammering home a shot from the top of the circle off a corner just 2:03 into the game for her first collegiate goal. Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) assisted on the goal. 
Skidmore made it 2-0 at the 29:32 mark when Kemp got the rebound off a shot from Molly Gile (Dover, N.H.) and beat New Paltz goalie Antonija Pjetri for her second goal of the season. Less than three minutes later, Kemp added another goal, stealing the ball from the defender and beating the goalie one-on-one to give the Thoroughbreds a 3-0 leading heading into the half.
A little over five minutes into the second half, Kemp picked up her third goal of the afternoon, taking a crossing pass from classmate Brittany O'Brien (Ridgefield, Conn.) and giving Skidmore a four goal lead.
The Hawks were able to get on the board at the 46:45 mark when Lauren Nicomini found the ball in front of the net and beat Thoroughbred keeper Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) to cut the deficit to three.
Skidmore got the goal back less than ten minutes later as Blackhurst netted her second goal of the game at the 55:37 mark to push the lead back to four at 5-1.
Catinella moved to 2-1, allowing one goal and making one save in 55:37 of action as Margaux Hoagland(Cazenovia, N.Y.) finished the game for the Thoroughbreds, playing the final 14:23. Pjetri made 12 stops on 17 shots for New Paltz.
Skidmore outshot the Hawks 25-4 and held an 8-2 advantage on penalty corners.
The Thoroughbreds open league play on Saturday, September 18 when they host Union College at 2:00 p.m.
