Field hockey advances to Liberty League Championship with 3-0 win over Union

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The #7 Skidmore College field hockey team will play for its third straight Liberty League Championship after Wednesday's 3-0 semifinal win over Union at Thoroughbred Field. The Thoroughbreds have won a program record 16 consecutive games and has now beaten Union in the Liberty League semifinals for the third straight season.
 
Skidmore improves to 17-1 on the season and a perfect 11-0 at home, while the Dutchwomen fall to 10-8 on the year.
 
Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, Conn.) got the scoring started at the 5:40 mark, redirecting a shot from Kelly Blackhurst (North River, N.Y.) past Union keeper Sarah Rios for a 1-0 Thoroughbred lead. Skidmore made it a 2-0 game at the 17:34 mark when Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) sent a pass across the circle to Blackhurst, who put it home for her 19th goal of the season.
 
The Thoroughbreds capped off the scoring at the 45:11 mark in the second half on Rosencrans' 2nd goal of

the game. Kemp was able to speed past the defense and get a 2-on-1 advantage going at the goal and dished off to the side for Rosencrans' to finish for her 16th goal of the season.
 
Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) made seven saves in net for Skidmore for her third individual shutout and ninth shared this season. Rios made eight stops for the Dutchwomen and Natalie Engel chipped in with a defensive save.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot Union, 22-11 and held a 17-8 advantage in penalty corners.
 
Skidmore will make its fourth straight appearance in the Liberty League Championship. They will host the winner of tonight's other semifinal matchup between Hamilton and William Smith, this Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
