Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team was in complete control during Saturday's Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field, earning a 5-0 victory over Clarkson.
The Thoroughbreds improved to 2-1-1 league and 7-3-2 overall, while the Golden Knights fall to 0-4 league and 4-9 overall.
Kelsey Yam (Longmeadow, Mass.) got the Skidmore offense started, when she scored at the 4:23 mark off a perfect crossing pass from
Abby Benton (Vergennes, Vt.) to make it 1-0. Just over 10 minutes later, Yam tallied her second goal of the afternoon, this time taking a cross from classmate
Ali Evans (Avon, Conn.) and beating the keeper near post for her third goal of the season and gave Skidmore a 2-0 lead, which they took into the half.

Laura Groetzinger (Moreland Heights, Ohio) gave the Thoroughbreds a three-goal advantage, beating Clarkson goalie Stephanie Collins on a breakaway for her first goal of the year. Benton made it 4-0 at the 67:43 mark as she took a pass from Yam in the box and chipped it in.

Kelsey Russell (Rotterdam, N.Y.) was able to work her way past the defenders and found
Jen Wardyga (Barrington, R.I.) in front for an easy goal. The goal was the first of Wardyga's collegiate career and the final tally of the game as the Thoroughbreds earned the 5-0 victory.
Freshman
Gab Lawrence (Yorktown, N.Y.) made seven saves in goal to earn her first victory and first shutout at Skidmore. Collins made seven saves for the Golden Knights before being relieved by Liz Snow for the final 10:15.
The Thoroughbreds held a 17-9 shot advantage and had the only corner kick of the game.
Skidmore returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12 for a home game against Bard College. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
