Quick start leads Saints over Thoroughbred men

Box Score

Canton, N.Y.-- The St. Lawrence University's men's soccer team scored three goals in a span of a little over nine minutes in the first half and went on to post a 3-0 Liberty League soccer victory over Skidmore at Sandy MacAllaster Field Friday afternoon.

The Saints improve to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in league play heading into a Saturday match with Union while Skidmore is now 5-5-2, 0-2-1 going into a Saturday game at Clarkson.

Juniors Dan Marvin and Brendan Gorman staked the Saints to an early 2-0 lead, scoring a minute apart in the first half as each picked up their second goal of the season and sophomore Sam DeMello scored his team-leading sixth of the year at 15:09 to complete the scoring in the game.

Marvin scored on a header as he put the rebound of an initial shot by Mike Manfredi back past Skidmore goalie Nick Peterson with 6:06 gone in the game and Gorman scored exactly a minute later off a cross from Marvin, easily tapping the pass into the net as Marvin sent the ball toward the far post.

Freshman Andrew Bendarsky set up the third Saint goal as he sent a pass into the box and DeMello one-touched it into the far corner at 15:09.

The Saints outshot Skidmore 19-7 overall and 9-4 in shots on goal as Nate Goss-Woliner made four saves for his third shutout of the season and Peterson finished with six saves for the Thoroughbreds. The Saints had 10 corner kicks to none for Skidmore.
