Records fall as field hockey rolls past Wheaton on Senior Day, 7-0

Box Score
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Christine Kemp became Skidmore College field hockey's all-time leading scorer with a nine-point performance and the Thoroughbreds set a new program record with their 15th consecutive win as #7 Skidmore dominated Wheaton, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 16-1 on the season, while the Lyons fall to 12-6.

Kemp's (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) assist on Brittany O'Brien's (Ridgefield, Conn.) goal at the 10:52 mark gave her 181 career points, surpassing Taryn Howard's career total of 180. After tallying four goals and an assist, Kemp now has 187 career points on 65 goals and 57 assists.

Kemp got the scoring started at the 9:23 mark when she deflected Annie Rosencrans' (Riverside, Conn.) pass high past the keeper to make it 1-0. Just over a minute later, Kemp passed off to O'Brien on a penalty corner and O'Brien blasted it home from the wing for her sixth goal of the season. Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the first half as the Thoroughbreds held a 2-0 advantage after the first 35 minutes.

Kelly Blackhurst (North River, N.Y.) opened up the second half with her 18th goal of the season at the 36:39 mark, making it 3-0 and less than two minutes later, Kemp tallied her second goal of the game, again deflecting Annie Rosencrans' pass past the keeper. At the 40:33 mark, Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) picked up her fourth goal of the season after she weaved through the defenders and found the back of the cage. Kemp tallied her third goal of the game at the 45:27 mark, taking a pass in front of the goal from O'Brien and hammering it home. Kemp capped the scoring with her fourth goal of the game and 23rd of the season at the 54:52 mark, blasting a shot from the middle of the circle for a 7-0 Skidmore lead.

Senior Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) earned the win after making the start in goal and classmate Margaux Hoagland (Cazenovia, N.Y.) made three stops in 24:33 of relief for the Thoroughbreds. Ellie Massengill made eight stops for the Lyons.

Skidmore dominated both shots and penalty corners, outshooting Wheaton 22-3 and holding an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The Thoroughbreds host Union in the Liberty League Semifinals, Wednesday, November 3 at 3 p.m.
