Thoroughbreds throttle Hawks, 7-0

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Christine Kemp scored four goals and had an assist to lead the #7 Skidmore College field hockey team to a 7-0 win over Hartwick, Wednesday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field. The Thoroughbreds have won 14 straight games, tying a program record set in 1999.
 
Skidmore improves to 15-1 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 4-12.
 
After her nine-point outburst against Hartwick , Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) now has 178 career points and is two points away from tying Taryn Howard's career scoring record of 180, set in 2002. 
 
Kemp got the scoring started at the 9:08 mark, dribbling into the middle of the circle and blasting a shot past Hawks' keeper Mackenzie Chapman. Katie Potter (Rumson, N.J.) tallied her eighth goal of the season at the 15:25 mark after taking a pass from Claire Superak (Carrboro, N.C.), she turned and finished to make it 2-0. Kemp got her second goal of the game after deflecting Hilary Cranston's (Mason, N.H.) crossing pass in to the back of the net, giving the Thoroughbreds a 3-0 halftime advantage.
 
Skidmore came right back in the second half as Brittany O'Brien (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored 22 seconds into the half, deflecting Kemp's pass past the goalie for her fifth of the season. Kemp made it 5-0 as she took a pass at mid-field, slipped past the defenders and beat the keeper one-on-one. At the 50:34 mark, Kemp put back a rebound off her own shot for her fourth goal of the game and 19th of the season. Junior Lauren Tobias (New City, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring at 61:01 as she sped past two defenders and blasted a shot home for the Thoroughbreds, making it 7-0.
 
Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.), Margaux Hoagland (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Allie Sosinsky (Medfield, Mass.) all shared time in goal in the shutout for Skidmore. Chapman made 10 saves and Megan Campbell stopped three shots in relief.
 
“Skidmore was dominant from start to finish against Hartwick today” said Skidmore head coach Beth Hallenbeck.  “The ball control and passing were superior.  Everyone contributed to the shut out win.”
Skidmore dominated throughout the contest, outshooting the Hawks, 29-1 and holding a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners.
 
The Thoroughbreds host Wheaton College, Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. as they wrap up their regular season.
