Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The 9
th-ranked Skidmore College field hockey team scored five unanswered goals to earn a 5-2 non-conference victory over Williams, Sunday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 12-1 and have now won 11 straight, while the Ephs fall to 2-9 on the year.
Williams got out to the early 1-0 lead, when Karyn Moss took a pass across the circle from Margie Fulton and scored at the 5:28 mark.
Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, Conn.) tied it up at the 21:50 mark when she took a pass on the wing from
Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) on a penalty corner and lofted the ball over Katrina Tulla's stick for her 10th goal of the year. Before the end of the half,
Katie Potter (Rumson, N.J.) gave Skidmore the lead, putting home a rebound at the 32:59 mark, her seventh goal of the season.
The Thoroughbreds got right back to work at the start of the second half as
Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) scored from the top of the circle at 36:13, making it a 3-1 advantage. Rosencrans tallied her second goal of the contest at 50:03 when she found a loose ball in front of the goal and hammered it home. Kemp made it 5-1 just over three minutes later, taking a pass from
Jackie Slocombe (Amherst, Mass.) in front of the goal and beating the Ephs keeper for her 15
th of the year.
Williams added a goal at the 65:11 mark when Fulton scored on a shot from the top of the circle off a pass from Emily Jablonski to round out the scoring for the contest.
Skidmore outshot the Ephs 27-9 and held a 16-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with two saves in 62:50 of action and
Margaux Hoagland (Cazenovia, N.Y.) made a save in 7:10 of relief. Tulla finished with 13 saves for Williams.
The Thoroughbreds resume Liberty League action on Saturday, Oct. 23 at St. Lawrence.
