Men’s soccer drops New Paltz, 1-0

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Doug Yeates scored in the 68th minute to help lift the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference win over New Paltz, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds improve to 7-6-2 overall while the Hawks fall to 7-8.
 
Yeates (Richmond, Vt.) tallied his second goal of the season at the 67:56 mark when he slipped behind the defenders on a pass from Diego Reinero (Princeton, N.J.) and beat New Paltz keeper Conor Power low for the eventual game-winner.
 
Both teams were quiet in the first half with the better chances coming in the second. The Hawks had two good scoring chances in the second half that were turned away by Skidmore goalie Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.). In the 48th minute, Peterson made a save on a diving header in the box from Dave Gardiner and at the 66:41 mark, he Made a diving save on Tommy Garafola's blast from the top of the box.
 
Peterson finished with five stops for his third shutout of the season. Power faced eight shots, allowing just the one goal in his fourth start of the season.
 
Both teams played physical throughout, combining for 30 fouls and four yellow cards.
 
New Paltz outshot the Thoroughbreds 13-12, while Skidmore held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Thoroughbreds are at Cazenovia on Oct. 19 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
