Skidmore women win fifth straight

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Senior Lindsay Schmitt scored on a diving header to give the Skidmore College women's soccer team a 1-0 non-league win over Bard College, Tuesday at Wachenheim Field.

It was the third straight shutout and fifth consecutive win for the Thoroughbreds who improve to 8-3-2. The Raptors fall to 6-6.

Skidmore's goal came early in the first half when Christine Bellotti played a long ball to waiting Schmitt, who timed her dive perfectly to head the ball past Bard keeper Amy Strawbridge at 12:57.

The Thoroughbreds had a few additional chances, but Strawbridge kept Skidmore from increasing its lead with 10 saves.

Gab Lawrence earned her second shutout of the season with one save. The Thoroughbreds held a 19-6 shot and 11-2 corner advantage.

Skidmore returns to Liberty League action on Oct. 16 at Union College in a 1 p.m. match.
