Thoroughbreds fall to Williams, 71-52

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team lost 71-52 to Williams, Wednesday night at the Sports & Recreation Center. Skidmore falls to 7-2 on the year, while the Ephs improve to 10-3.
Sharlyn Harper (New York, N.Y.) had 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks while sophomore Megan Gaugler (Amsterdam, N.Y.) added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Thoroughbreds. Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, N.Y.) chipped in with nine rebounds and four steals.
It was a close game throughout the first half, with Williams holding a 30-23 lead at halftime. The Ephs came out strong in the second half, outscoring Skidmore 12-4 in the first five minutes of the second half to push their lead to 15 points.
The Thoroughbreds would cut the lead to 11 when Harper took a pass from Christina Gargiso (Staten Island, N.Y.) and hit a three with 7:22 remaining, but that's as close as Skidmore would make it as the Ephs were able to build their lead back up.
Chessie Jackson led three Williams' players in double-digits with 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting and 4-for-4 for three-pointers while recording seven rebounds and five assists. Jill Greenberg added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Lisa Jaris chipped in with 10 points and Claire Baecher had six points to go along with six blocked shots for the Ephs.
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Saturday, when they host Middlebury at 2 p.m. in the Sports & Recreation Center.
