Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Senior Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) scored three goals to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 5-1 win over Babson College, Saturday at Thoroughbred Field.
The 13th ranked Thoroughbreds are 1-0 and will host number nine SUNY Cortland on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Beavers fall to 1-1.
Skidmore controlled the game from the start with an pair of first-half goals 42 seconds apart. Claire Superak (Carrboro, N.C.) scored off a corner from Britt and Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) 7:06 into the game. Britt converted a perfect cross from Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) at 7:48 to make it 2-0. Kemp closed out the first half scoring when Katie Potter (Rumson, N.J.) sent her in all alone at 28:02.
In the second half, Sarah Fredlund got Babson on the board off a corner at 44:48. The Thoroughbreds were short handed with a player serving a Yellow Card penalty.
Skidmore came right back with Britt scoring off a rebound at 50:46 for a 4-1 lead. Britt's third goal came at 61:39 from Kemp for the 5-1 final.
The Thoroughbreds had a 22-11 shot and 9-3 corner advantage. Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) had five saves in net for the win. Jessica Pashos and Emily Cohen combined for nine saves for Babson.
